Between 2023 and 2025, Brunswick County approved ten utility-scale solar projects totaling more than 2,000 MW—with no denials. Early partnerships with local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and SCVBA created durable community buy-in and protected projects from regional opposition groups that had stalled development in neighboring counties.

By mid-2025, even as opposition organized hundreds of residents against new projects, the Board of Supervisors reaffirmed its support—approving nearly 900 MW of new solar while adjusting acreage rules to allow further growth. This outcome underscores the power of early ground-softening, locally credible messengers, and business-aligned advocacy in ensuring advanced energy projects can move forward with community backing.
